How do I get started using the Yandex.Maps API on my website?

There are three ways to start using the API:

For creating basic maps with your own placemarks and driving directions, use the Map Constructor, where you can create simple maps in a visual mode.

Another approach is to review the documentation and samples. Then you can write JavaScript code and embed it on your website's pages. This is sufficient to provide a geographic service for your users.

Can I edit a map that was created in the Map Constructor?

Yes, you can. To save and edit the map, you must log in or register on Yandex when creating it. Keep in mind that you will not be able to transfer the map to a different user account later.

Which browsers does the Yandex.Maps API support?

The list of supported browsers is published in the documentation. This list is updated on a regular basis.

How can I get a list of cities that have a detailed map?

You can find a list of cities that have detailed maps and photos on Yandex.Maps at https://maps.yandex.com/?index.

Do I need a key to access the API?

You do not need a key to work with the free API versions 1.x, 2.0, or 2.1. If you get the "Invalid key" error when using a free version of the API, just remove the key from the connection link and continue using the API.

For HTTP Geocoder users and sites that don't pass the HTTP Referer header, the world search is accessible only using a key. Get a key and use it for accessing the API if you need the search feature outside of the following countries: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

How can I embed a map in a blog?

If your blog hoster does not allow using JavaScript, you will not be able to use an interactive JavaScript map. However, you can use the Static Maps API and insert an image of the map in your blog. To do this, use the Map Constructor to visually design a map.

Is the business search available in the API?

To enable searching for organizations in the JavaScript API, set 'yandex#search' as the provider in the search bar. You can also use the Business Search HTTP API. If your project requires making more than 500 API requests per day, you can purchase a license and increase the limit.
